We are in need
of some work this week with yard signs
and canvassing.
If you can help staple yard signs
together, contact Paul Shannon: 649-7587
or 'Paul.shannon@siemens.com' We have only
about 500 left to staple and our goal is to
finish them by Thursday! The signs and
staplers are conveniently located near NC State/
Downtown Raleigh off of Hillsborough
St. at 212 Cox Avenue.
Another need is to deliver signs
to houses. Thank you to the Lizak’s,
the Fulchers, Julie T., and Medhat for delivering
the first round. The second round of
home deliveries has even more names on the
list and each zip code will take a few hours
of your time (one or two evenings or afternoons.) Please
consider helping us with this task as we are
most in need of volunteers to get these signs
out to residences.
Finally, next weekend and the
week after we will be posting yard signs up
on major roads. This is a fun and creative
job with a few rules to follow to get the most
impact out of the signs. Contact Paul
if this seems like the job for you. 649-7587or Paul.shannon@siemens.com
While Paul and I are most concerned
about signs, we know that Jennifer Bumgarner
is busy trying to get 20 folks to work on canvassing
this week. Here is some info about canvassing:
About
Canvassing:
Canvassing is the most effective method of introducing a candidate to voters.
Basically, it is knocking on doors of voters, giving them a flyer, and saying
a few short words about Janet. Most contacts are quite short, but when voters
later get mail, or here an ad about the candidate, they are more likely to
take note because they remember that someone came by the house. The goal is
not to convert everyone, but just to introduce the candidate, and find those
who already support the campaign. The typical contact goes like this. “Hi,
My name is Perry. I’m just talking to your neighbors today and leaving
a little information about my friend Janet Cowell, who is running for State
Senate. We have a July 20 primary this year, and I’m out here today letting
folks know about Janet because she has been quite response to me as a City
Councilor. If you have any questions, just give a call or check out our web
site. Thanks for your time.” If folks appear supportive, you will want
to ask if they would like a yard sign, and make note. Instead of knocking on
every door, we use walk lists and knock only on doors of eligible voters to
be more efficient with our time. Once you get started, you will find that canvassing
is a fun and rewarding experience.
