October 8, 2004 Last day to register, change your party affiliation or your address.The voter registration form must be postmarked by or hand delivered by this date. NCGS 163-82.6(c)

October 14, 2004 One-stop no excuse absentee voting opens NCGS 163-227.2(b)

October 26, 2004 5:00 p.m. - Last day to receive absentee requests by mail or applications or fax. NCGS 163-230.1(a)

October 30, 2004 One-stop absentee voting ends NCGS 163-227.2(b) between 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. as determined by Board.

November 1, 2004 5:00 p.m. - All voted absentee ballots must be in the Board of Elections Office. NCGS 163-231 (b) - Last day to request absentee ballot if sick or disabled NCGS 163-230.1 (a1)

According to NCGS 163-230.2, Wake County Voters may ask for an absentee ballot request form in person, by mail, by fax or by telephone.

If you want to vote absentee by mail, you have to request an absentee ballot by mail (no excuse required). You can call Eva Diggs at 856-6252 to get the exact particulars of what she needs in your request. The Wake County Board of Elections mail address is 337 S Salisbury Street, PO Box 695, Raleigh, NC 27602. The ballot has to be received by July 13th.

How to register to vote in North Carolina

Any person registering to vote for the first time in North Carolina, or making an address change, must do so 25 days before the Nov. 2 election. This year, the deadline is Oct. 8. Forms postmarked Oct. 8 will be accepted. For a registration form, contact the Board of Elections office in the county where you live or attend school. Students cannot register in both counties. The state Web site and each county site also offer registration forms in English and Spanish. The forms can be printed, completed and mailed or delivered.

Absentee voting in North Carolina

Requests for absentee ballots must be received at local Board of Elections offices in writing via mail or hand delivery by 5 p.m. Oct. 26. Requests must include the voter's name, signature, date of birth, address at which the voter is registered and address to which the ballot should be mailed. The request can be made by an immediate family member on behalf of the voter. With the exception of the voter's signature, relatives requesting a ballot must provide the information listed above about the voter and themselves. Absentee ballots must be returned to the office from which they were requested by 5 p.m., Nov. 1.
